This week has flown by. Luna’s 3rd birthday was last Monday and it started out so perfectly and then ended up being one of the scariest days of my life. In the morning we had a little celebration when she woke up with huge balloons and decorations and a donut cake (she’s obsessed with donuts right now) and she was so excited about all of it. Then, we took her to an indoor trampoline park with a bunch of obstacle courses in it and she went crazy – she was in heaven! Kiel and I took turns playing with her and I think we ended up having as much fun as she did. But after we were all done with that we took a little break in a kid’s lounge area. There was a small table that kind of looked like a mini runway and Luna decided to hop on the table and walk down it and then she decided to jump off the table and try to land on one of the chairs, which were really just a bunch of ottoman poufs. The second she landed on one of them, it slipped out from under her and she fell backwards and hit her head on the table. I saw her fall out of the corner of my eye and immediately ran over to pick her up and sat down with her in my lap thinking she just needed a minute to recoup, but then Kiel rushed over to me and said, “Oh my god she’s bleeding!” and when I took my hand off of the back of her head it was covered in blood! Her head was bleeding so much and she wasn’t crying or anything which was scary, so we called an ambulance and then tried to keep Luna calm. She started fading in and out of consciousness which freaked me out but luckily Kiel is amazing in those kinds of situations and he has some emergency medical training so he knew exactly what to do. The paramedics arrived a little while later (which felt like an eternity at the time – I must have looked like a crazy person frantically pacing around outside waiting for them to show up so I could flag them down) and took us to the hospital. She ended up needing staples in her head, but the doctors said that there wasn’t any internal head injuries which was such a relief. Honestly, that day was so scary. It’s crazy how quickly things can go from good to horrible and it really made me take a step back and appreciate all of the little moments I get spend with my family. I’m thinking we might have a do-over birthday for her once she’s feeling better!
I hope your guys’ weeks have been less traumatic than mine! After having strep throat last week and going to the ER this week, I’m hoping things settle down and we can just relax for a little bit. But with the way things go for me, that’s probably not in the cards! =P
