When we first found out that we were having another baby, I was so excited! I was thrilled that I would get to buy cute little newborn clothes (for a boy this time – yay!), decorate his nursery, and most of all cuddle with a sweet little newborn. When we brought Beau home from the birth center after my whirlwind delivery (which you can read about here), he slept next to my side of the bed in his bassinet. I had been thinking about moving him into his own room for a while but was too afraid to be so far away from him, so when Owlet reached out to me to ask if I’d be interested in trying out their baby monitor I knew that it was the perfect time to transition him into his own room.
Owlet Baby Care is working to change the way we care for our infants and babies from the day we take them home from the hospital. Owlet’s monitor isn’t like normal baby monitors that just give you an audible or visual update on your little one – their monitor measures your baby’s pulse oximetry, a technology that doctors and nurses have used for decades, and is designed to alert you if your baby’s heart rate dips too low or spikes too high. The wireless Smart Sock fits over your baby’s foot and monitors their heart rate and oxygen levels while they sleep. This info gets transmitted to the Base Station, which is a sleek little device that glows green when the baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels are in the normal range and if they drop, an alert starts playing and the lights blink red. The information from the monitor can also be relayed to your smartphone via the blue tooth-connected Base Station so you can view your baby’s live vitals anywhere. For me, that was amazing! With our old video monitor, I felt the need to constantly check in on him to make sure that he was okay, especially when he would face away from the camera, but once we set up the Owlet monitor all I had to do was check my phone to ensure that he was sleeping soundly – I didn’t have to go into his room and disturb him. Both of us are getting a good night’s sleep these days.
I hope you all had a great weekend! What are some of your new mom must haves?
