Quality denim can last decades, transcend trends, and make you feel like the best version of yourself. There are so many reasons to inves in a great pair.
My approach to denim is like that of a good pair of boots – you need to give them a little time to break them in. Quality denim is made of sturdier threads of cotton and holds up for more wears than denim with cheaper construction. You can’t break in a pair of jeans if they don’t last long enough.
2/ Wear Over Time
Related to the construction point above, the way that really good pieces of denim wear over time is different than lesser quality denim. The color tends to “patina” over time in quality denim, where it sort of just fades (sometimes very unevenly) in poor quality denim.
I’ll be the first to say that this is 100% subjective, but I have had a hell of a time finding unique and thoughtful styles in cheaper denim.
4/ Work With Them
A good pair of denim can be altered and repaired over time. You can take the hem up or down, fix split seams, and add patches to cover holes (or just let them show like a badge of honor, baby!). Cheaper denim just can’t stand up to being worked on multiple times.
5/ Wardrobe Staple
I wear denim at least 3 times a week, if not more. I don’t know what to wear = denim. Feeling meh and just want to be comfy = denim. Going out for drinks but I want to look understated = denim. You get the idea. A good piece of denim transcends occasion and trends. Remember when flare jeans were huge in the mid 2000’s, and then they went out of style? They are back now and a good pair of denim would stand the test of time. Trends come and go, but quality wardrobe pieces are here to stay!
